In 1924 Mary Roche was part of the Rutherglen Ladies team which defeated Preston’s celebrated Dick Kerr Ladies 2-0. The match towards the end of a boom in women’s football, where many women who worked in factories during wartime took up the sport. Their progress was halted by the Scottish FA’s decision to ban the women’s game.
